The actor Joseph Crehan began his acting career at the beginning of
the 20th century at the theater and eventually came to the Broadway in
1914 where he was successful as well.
He made his film debut with the silent movie "Under Two Flags" (16),
afterwards he concentrated exclusively again to the theater.
Only with the rise of the sound film he got interested again in movies
and he became a demanded support actor in no time, often in roles of authoritarian
figures, among others he impersonated Ulysses S. Grant in eight movie and
TV productions.
The 30s offered him numerous engagements in popular productions and
he took part at the side many great stars of that time in movies like "Stolen
Heaven" (31), "It Happened One Night" (34), "The Man with Two Faces" (34),
"Black Fury" (35), "Front Page Woman" (35), "Frisco Kid" (35), "Anthony
Adverse" (36), "Kid Galahad" (37), "Born Reckless" (37), "Big City" (37),
"Bluebeard's Eight Wife" (38), "Gataway" (38), "Too Hot to Handle" (38),
"You Can't Get Away with Murder" (39), "Union Pacific" (39), "Blackmail"
(39), "The Roaring Twenties" (39) and "Geronimo" (39).
The 40s were also distincted with numerous engagement in front of the
camera, to his movies of those years belong "The Green Hornet" (40), "Brother
Orchid" (40), "Here Comes Happiness" (41), "Life Begins for Andy Hardy"
(41), "They Died with Their Boots On" (41), "Larceny, Inc." (42), "Gentleman
Jim" (42), "Mission to Moscow" (43), "False Faces" (43), "Phantom Lady"
(44), "The Adventures of Mark Twain" (44), "The Thin Man Goes Home" (45),
"Brewster's Millions" (45), "Lady on a Train" (45), "Dick Tracy" (45),

In the 50s television became more and more important for his career
and in the next years he took part in cinema and TV productions. To these
movies belong an episode of the serial "The Lone Ranger: Never Say Die"
(50), "Watch the Birdie" (50), "The Family Secret" (51), "San Antone" (53),
an episode of the serial "I Love Lucy: The Great Train Robbery" (55) and
an episode of the serial "The Untouchables: The Dutch Schultz Story" (59).
His last cinematical activities came in the 60s in to being, among
them "Judgment at Nuremberg" (61), an episode of the serial "Perry Mason:
The Case of the Elusive Element" (63) and "The Bounty Killer" (65).
