The actress Marie Doro was born as Marie K. Steward in Duncannon.
She began her career at the theater where she had first successes before she came to the film business in 1915. 

Under Adolph Zukor she made her film debut with "The Morals of Marcus" (15) and in the next years followed other popular productions like "The White Pearl" (15), "Diplomacy" (16), "The Lash" (16), "Oliver Twist" (16) - a role she already impersonated on stage four years ago and "Heart's Desire" (17).

In the 20s came her last movies into being - among others also some Italian-American co-productions when she was in Europe - with "Beatrice" (21) and "Sally Bishop" (24) where she impersonated the title role.

When she retired from the would-be glamour world of Hollywood she briefly studied at the Union Theological Seminary. The in days of yore in the limelight standing actress lived in seclusion.

Marie Doro was married with the actor Elliott Dexter
Charlie Chaplin wrote in his book "My Autobiography" that Marie Doro was his first love.
