The actress Helen Jerome Eddy fascinated the earl cinema audience
with her girlish and often mournful mien and she was able to
impersonate many rewarding roles in well-known silent movies.
She began her acting career at the theater and appeared among others at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Finally she was engaged for the film by the Lubin company in 1915, later she switched to Paramount.
To
her first movies belong "The Discontented Man" (15), "Jealousy" (15),
"The Gentleman from Indiana" (15), "The Code of Marcia Gray" (16), "The
Candle" (16), "His Sweetheart" (17), "Lost in Transit" (17), "Rebecca
of Sonnybrook Farm" (17), "Old Wives for New" (18), "Winner Takes All"
(18), "The Trembling Hour" (19) and "The Turn in the Road" (19).
In the 20s followed the heigt of her career and she often took part in movies directed by George Beban.
She
was able to demonstrate her acting abilities in productions like
"Pollyanna" (20), "The Forbidden Thing" (20), "The Other Woman" (21),
"Marry Me" (25), "The Dark Angel" (25), "Camille" (26), "Two Lovers"
(28) and "The Divine Lady" (29).
When the sound film arose she
was able to establish herself as a character actress and she played
different role in popular movies like "Niagara Falls" (30), "The Great
Meadow" (31), "Skippy" (31), "Mata Hari" (31), "Madame Butterfly" (32),
"Riptide" (34), "A Shot in the Dark" (35), "Bride of Frankenstein"
(35), "Klondike Annie" (36), "The Garden of Allah" (36), "Winterset"
(36), "City Streets" (38) and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (39).
In
the 40s she only appeared sporadically in movies, to these works belong
"Strike Up the Band" (40) and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (47)
with Danny Kaye in the leading role.
After her film career Helen Jerome Eddy became a real estate agent, and sporadically she also appeared on stages again.
