1893 - 1981

She began her acting career in 1911 on stage, from 1915 she also appeared regular in front of the camera. to her first silent movies belong "A Prehistoric Love Story" (15), "Milestones" (16), "The Way of an Eagle" (18), "The Elder Miss Blossom" (18), "Mrs. Thompson" (19) and "Hope" (19). 
In the 20's followed other successful productions, among them Aunt Rachel" (20), "Dick Turpin's Ride to York" (22), "Broken Shadows" (22), "The Wandering Jew" (23), "The Last Witness" (25), "The Tower of London" (26) and the German production "Tragödie einer Ehe" (27). 

At the beginning of the 30's she only took part in movies sporadically, afterwards she went to the USA where she was successful both on Broadway - where she already made her debut in 1926 - and on the big screen. 

One of her greatest success on Broadway was the play "Ladies in Retirement" (39) which was filmed two years later with the same title.

She made perfect her roles as a blue-blooded majesty in a bad mood and was put into action as a counterpart of the klutzy Jerry Lewis at the end of 50's. To her well-known productions of the 50's and 60's belong "Desirée" (54), "The King's Thief" (55), "The Young Philadelphians" (59), "The Miracle" (59), "The Bellboy" (60), "The Errand Boy" (61), "My Fair Lady" (64) and "The Pleasure Seekers" (64). 

Isobel Elsom was among others married with the director Maurice Elvey.
