Die Schauspielerin Mary Forbes kam vom Theater als sie 1919 erstmals
in einem Film erschien mit dem Titel "Women Who Win" (19).
In den nächsten Jahren entstanden wenige weitere Stummfilme wie

In den 30er Jahren nahm der Film eine bedeutendere Rolle in ihrer Laufbahn
ein und sie verkörperte eine grosse Zahl an Nebenrollen in Produktionen
wie "Abraham Lincoln" (30), "Working Girls" (31), "Vanity Fair" (32), "Bombshell"
(33), "Sadie McKee" (34), "A Lost Lady" (34), "The Peinted Veil" (34),
"Les Misérables" (35), "The Widow from Monte Carlo" (35), "Captain
Blood" (35), "Wee Willie Winkie" (37), "Stage Door" (37), "The Rage of
Paris" (38), "Risky Business" (39), "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes"
(39) und "Ninotchka" (39).
Auch die 40er Jahre gestalteten sich äussert arbeitsintensiv und
sie spielte in bekannten Filmen wie "Private Affairs" (40), "We Were Dancing"
(42), "The Great Impersonation" (42), "Dangerous Blondes" (43), "Flesh
and Fantasy" (43), "Jane Eyre" (44), "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (45),
"Terror by Night" (46), "The Kid from Brooklyn" (46), "The Secret Life
of Walter Mitty" (47), "The Black Arrow" (48) und "The Judge Steps Out"
(49).
Danach nahmen ihre Engagements beim Film ab und sie agierte mehrheitlich
für Fernsehproduktionen.
Zu ihren letzten filmischen Arbeiten zählen "Les Misérables"
(52) und eine winzige Rolle in "Houseboat" (58) mit Cary Grant und Sophia
Loren.
Ihre Tochter Brenda Forbes und ihr Sohn Ralph Forbes wurden ebenfalls
Schauspieler.
