The actor Lawrence Grossmith was descended from a traditional acting family, his father was George Grossmith who became famous as Gilbert-and-Sullivan, his brohter George Grossmith jr. was also a well-known actor.

He has already built up an impressive stage career when he made his film debut in 1914 with "The Brass Bottle".
In the following years he took part in other silent movies like "The Common Cause" (19) and "A House Divided" (19).

it followed a longer interruption in which he dedicated to the theater exclusively again, only in 1933 he continued his film career.
To his talkies of the 30's belong "Cash" (33) with Edmund Gwenn, "The Private Life of Don Juan" (34) with Douglas Fairbanks, "Tiger Bay" (34) with Anna May Wong, "It Happened in Paris" (35) directed by Carol Reed, the Sherlock Holmes movie "Silver Blaze" (37) and "Captain Fury" (39) directed by Hal Roach.

His last cinematical works were "No Time for Comedy" (40) with James Stewart and as Lord Dalroy in "Gaslight" (44) with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman.

Lawrence Grossmith was married with the stage actress Coralie Blythe.
