1895 - 1957

The actor Russell Hicks belonged to the most busy actors. His career as a support actor covers about 300 movies which came mainly in the 30's to 50's into being. 

He played his first smaller role in the classic "The Birth of a Nation" (15) directed by D.W. Griffith, it followed an other classic with "Intolerance" (16) - again directed by Griffith.

However his real acting career began in the 30's where he became a much demanded support actor shortly. He often impersonated respectful figures like judges, business men, lawyers and military officers but also grandfatherly roles. 

To his well-known movies of the 30's belong "Murder in the Clouds" (34), "Cardinal Richelieu" (35), "Charlie Chan in Shanghai" (35), "Hearts in Bondage" (36), "Ticket to Paradise" (36), "In Old Chicago" (37), "Espionage" (37), "Kidnapped" (38), "Gateway" (38), "That Certain Age" (38), "The Three Musketeers" (39), "The Story of Alexander Graham Bell" (39), "Union Pacific" (39) and "Hotel Imperial" (39).

He took part in numerous movies in the 40's as well and acted together with many stars at that time. 
He appeared among others in the productions "Virginia City" (40), "The Bank Dick" (40), "The Return of Frank James" (40), "Western Union" (41), "Blood and Sand" (41), "Sergeant York" (41), "The Little Foxes" (41), "We Were Dancing" (42), "Tarzan's New York Adventure" (42), "Hitler - Dead or Alive" (42), "Captain America" (44), "Dark Alibi" (46), "Plainsman and the Lady" (46), "Exposed" (47), "The Velvet Touch" (48) and "Samson and Delilah" (49).

It was granted to Russell Hicks that he could stay active as an actor till to his death and he impersonated again many roles in the last years of his live whereat television took over a more imporant significance in his career. 

To his last movies belong "The Flying Saucer" (50), "As You Were" (51), "Rodeo" (52), "The Maverick" (52), "Man of Conflict" (53), "Once Upon a Honeymoon" (56), "7th Cavalry" (56) and an episode of the serial "West Point: The Drowning of the Gun" (57).
