. The actress Ethel Irving was born as Frances Emily Irving, her father was the well-known actor Joseph Irving. She soon gained a foothold at the theater and became known abroad as well. Among others she also toured through Australia and other foreign countries. She made her silent movie debut at the age of 51 with "Under Crimson Skies" (20) directed by Regisseur Rex Ingram. The co-stars were Elmo Lincoln and Mabel Ballin. She took part in some more movies in the next years like "Tense Moments with Great Authors: La Tosca" (22), "Michael O'Halloran" (23) and "A Peep Behind the Scenes" (29). Her last film was the talkie "Call Me Mame" (33) where she impersonated the title role. Ethel Irving was married with the actor Gilbert Porteous. |
