. The actor and producer Wallace MacDonald was born in Nova Scotia in Canada geboren. He began his professional life as a messenger boy in Canada, afterwards he worked as a teller for the Royal Bank in Sydney and later in Vancouver. Finally he went to California where he made first acting experiences on stages before he gained a foothold in the film business in Hollywood. He began his film career in 1912 with "Disillusioned" (12) and in the next years followed movies like "The Rounders" (14), "Dought and Dynamite" (14), "Tillie's Punctured Romance" (14), "Their Last Haul" (15), "Purity" (16), "The Princess' Necklace" (17), "Madame Sphinx" (18), "Leave It to Susan" (19) and "A Girl Named Mary" (19). At the beginning of his film career he also acted together with the later famous Charlie Chaplin, so in "The Star Boarder" (14), "Caught in a Cabaret" (14), "Mabel's Busy Day", "Mabel's Married Life" (14) and "The Face on the Bar Room Floor" (14). Wallace MacDonald reached the height of his career in the 20s and he took part in well-known movies like "The Fighting Shepherdess" (20), "Cinderella's Twin" (20), "The Understudy" (22), "The Spoilers" (23), "Maytime" (23), "The Sea Hawk" (24), "Roaring Rails" (24), "The Charmer" (25), "Fighting with Buffalo Bill" (26), "Your Wife and Mine" (27), "Blockade" (28) and "Hit the Deck" (29). The sound film heralded the end of his acting career and during the 30s he only impersonated small rolles. To these productions belong "Madam Satan" (30), "Millie" (31), "Branded" (31), "High Speed" (32), "Gold Diggers of 1933" (33), "Voltaire" (33), "The World Changes" (33) and "Their Big Moment" (34). Afterwards he tried to work as a screen writer and he wrote the scripts for "Cornered" (32), "In Old Santa Fe" (34), "The Phantom Empire" (35), "Hearts in Bondage" (36) and "Men with Steel Faces" (40). In the end he got the chance to work as a producer for so-called B-movies for Columbia Pictures. He took up the chance and in the next decades he realised numerous movies as a producer. To his popular movies of the 30s and 40s belong "Parole Racket" (37), "Venus Makes Trouble" (37), "Murder in Greenwich Village" (37), "Women in Prison" (38), "The Man They Could Not Hang" (39), "Men Without Souls" (40), "The Face Behind the Mask" (41), "I Was a Prisoner on Devil's Island" (41), "Counter-Espionage" (42), "Passport to Suez" (43), "Cry of the Werewolf" (44), "The Devil's Mask" (46), "Port Said" (48) and "Law of the Barbary Coast" (49). In the 50s came the last produced movies into being like "Flame of Stamboul" (51), "Target Hong Kong" (53), "The Nebraskan" (53), "The Black Dakotas" (54), "Secret of Treasure Mountain" (56), "The Phantom Stagecoach" (57) and "Gunmen from Laredo" (59). Wallace MacDonald was married with the actress Doris May.
