Die Schauspielerin Gertrude McCoy wurde als Gertrude Lyon geboren.
Bereits als Kind sammelte sie erste schauspielerische Erfahrungen auf
verschiedenen Bühnen, ehe sie 1910 bei der Edison Stock Company ihr
Filmdebüt feierte.
In den nächsten Jahren entstanden unzählige Kurzfilme und
Gertrude McCoy wurde ein beliebter Star der ersten Hälfte der 10er
Jahre.
Zu ihren Filmen dieser Jahre gehören "Heroes Three" (11), "The
Summer Girl" (11), "Jack and the Beanstalk" (12), "The Workman's Lesson"
(12), "A Dangerous Lesson" (12), "The Little Girl Next Door" (12), "Under
False Colors" (12), "The Mountaineers" (13), "A Letter to Uncle Sam" (13),
"Kathleen Mavoruneen" (13), "His Greatest Victory" (13), "The Vanishing
Cracksman" (13), "An American King" (14) und "The Impersonator" (14).
1914 verliess sie die Edison Company und arbeitete als freischaffende
Schauspielerin.
Sie agierte bis Ende der 10er Jahre in "A Tragedy of the Rails" (15),
"The Phantom Thief" (15), "The Isle of Love" (16), "The Silent Wintess"
(17), "The Blue Bird" (18), "The Upsurper" (19) und "Angel Esquire" (19).
Ihre letzten Kinofilme entstanden in den 20er Jahren und sie verkörperte
Rollen in den Produktionen "The Golden Dawn" (21), "Was She Guilty?" (22),
"The Diamond Man" (24), "A Royal Divorce" (26), "Nelson" (26) und "Verborgene
Gluten" (28) - eine deutsche Produktion mit Alfons Fryland in der Hauptrolle.
Gertrude McCoy war mit dem Schauspieler Duncan McRae verheiratet.
