. The actress Beryl Mercer made her first acting experiences on stages as a child and continued her career successfully as an adnult Because she was small of height she often impersonated motherly roles and other likeable characters which she performed impressively in support roles of many movies. She made her film debut in 1916 with "The Final Curtain", in the 20's followed other silent movies like "Broken Chains" (22), "The Christian" (23) and "We Americans" (28). Her height in the film business followed in the 30's. She took part in many well-known productions and acted at the side of great stars like James Cagney, Spencer Tracy, Shirley Temple and Gary Cooper. To her most popular talkies belong "All Quiet on the Western Front" (30), "The Public Enemy" (31), "Unholy Love" (32), "The Richest Girl in the World" (34), "Jane Eyre" (34), "The Little Princess" (39), "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (39) and "The Story of Alexander Graham Bell" (39). Her career ended prematurely in 1939 when she died at the age of 57.
