The actor Harry S. Northrup was born as Henri Stabo Wallace Northrup in Paris.
When he emigrated to the USA he became a film pioneer of the Amercian film industry.
He
already took part in first movies from 1911 like "By Woman's Wit" (11),
"Madge of the Mountains" (11), "The Girl and the Sheriff" (11) and "The
Little Spy" (11).
He became a much demanded movie actor in the
next years and he impersonated numerous roles in productions like "The
Star Reporter" (12), "The Cave Man" (12), "The Lady of the Lake" (12),
"The Mills of Gods" (12), "The Weapon" (13), "The Prince of Evil" (13),
"Children of the Feud" (14), "The Painted World" (14), "The Enemies"
(15), "From Out of the Past" (16), "Greed" (17), "The Trail of the
Shadow" (17), "The Trail to Yesterday" (18), "Arizona" (18), "Two
Women" (19) and "The Hushed Hour" (19).
He continued his film
career successfully in the 20s and he took part in movies of well-known
directors at the side of the new stars like Douglas Fairbanks and
Rudolph Valentino.
To his most popular works of those years belong
"The Prince of Avenue A" (20), "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse"
(21), "Hate" (22), "The Christian" (23), "Human Wreckage" (23), "A
Woman of Paris" (23), "Devil's Island" (26), "Wanted: A Coward" (27),
"The Divine Sinner" (28) and "Prisoners" (29).
With the transition to the sound film his roles became smaller and his number of movies diminished.
To
his last appearances in front of the camera belong "Men Call It Love"
(31), "The Squaw Man" (31), "Half a Sinner" (34), "Marie Galante" (34)
and "Vagabond Lady" (35).
Harry S. North was married with the actress Merceita Esmond.
