Der Schauspieler Pat O'Malley war in den 10er und 20er Jahren ein äusserst
erfolgreicher Darsteller und agierte in seiner insgesamt fast 60 Jahre
umfassenden Karriere in unzähligen Filmen.
Bevor er erfolgeich beim Film Fuss fassen konnte, arbeitete er u.a.
als Weichensteller und beim Zirkus.
Obwohl er bereits 1908 erstmals in einem Film mit dem Titel "Saved
by Love" (08) auftrat, begann seine eigentliche Filmkarriere ab 1913 beim
Kalem Studio.
In den kommenden Jahren avancierte er zu einem vielbeschäftigen
Darsteller und zu seinen unzähligen Filme dieser Jahre gehören
"The Alien" (13), "The Best Man" (14), "The Glory of Clementina" (15),
"The King of the Wire" (15), "Gladiola" (15), "The Picture of Dorian Gray"
(16), "The Barker" (17), "She Hired a Husband" (18), "The Heart of Humanity"
(19) und "The Red Glove" (19).
In den 20er Jahren setzte er seine Laufbahn erfolgreich fort und er
verkörperte viele Hauptrollen. Zu den bekanntesten Filmen zählen
"The Blooming Angel" (20), "The Heart of a Woman" (20), "Black Beauty"
(21), "My Wild Irish Rose" (22), "Brothers Under the Skin" (22), "The Virginian"
(23), "The Fighting American" (24), "The White Desert" (25), "Cheaters"
(27), "The Rose of Kildare" (27), "The House of Scandal" (28) und "Alibi"
(29).
Mit dem Aufkommen des Tonfilms und aufgrund seines fortgeschrittenen
Alters wurde er fast über Nacht vom Haupt- zum Nebendarsteller zurückgestuft,
dennoch blieb Pat O'Malley dem Medium Film während den nächsten
34 Jahren treu und agierte in zahllosen Filmen mit kleinen Rollen, oftmals
als Polizisten, Wächter etc. In den meisten dieser Filme wurde er
namentlich im Vorspann nicht mehr genannt.
Zu seinen bekanntesten Produktionen der 30er Jahre gehören "The
Fall Guy" (30), "The Fighting Marshal" (31), "The Reckoning" (32), "Klondike"
(32), "Before Dawn" (33), "The Perils of Pauline" (33), "Evelyn Prentice"
(34), "Charlie Chan in Shanghai" (35), "Moonlight Murder" (36), "San Francisco"
(36), "36 Hours to Kill" (36), "Charlie Chan at the Race Track" (36), "San
Quentin" (37), "Bringing Up Baby" (38), "Mysterious Mr. Moto" (38), "They
Made Her a Spy" (39), "Frontier Marshal" (39) und "The Roaring Twenties"
(39).
In den kommenden Jahren blieben seine Rollen klein, seine Schaffenskraft
ungebrochen, seine Auftritte vor der Kamera äusserst zahlreich.
Pat O'Malley agierte in den 40er Jahren in Filmen wie "The Man Who
Wouldn't Talk" (40), "A Little Bit of Heaven" (40), "Strange Alibi" (41),
"Roxie Hart" (42), "The Glass Key" (42), "Gentleman Jim" (42), "Batman"
(43), "Mission to Moscow" (43), "The Adventures of Mark Twain" (44), "The
Man Who Dared" (46), "The Corpse Came C.O.D." (47), "The Man from Colorado"
(48) und "All the King's Men" (49).
Als in den 50er Jahren das Kino Konkurrenz durch das Fernsehen erhielt,
wurde Pat O'Malley auf für dieses Medium immer wieder engagiert und
er agierte in einzelnen Episoden bekannter Fernsehserien, daneben agierte
er aber auch weiterhin für Kinofilme.
Dazu gehören "The Blazing Sun" (50), "Silver Canyon" (51), "The
Quiet Man" (52), "Small Town Girl" (53), "Brigadoon" (54), "A Star Is Born"
(54), "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (56), eine Episode der Serie "Mike
Hammer: A Detective Tail" (58), eine Episode der Serie "M Squad: Model
in the Lake" (59) und eine Episode der Serie "The Twilight Zone: Walking
Distance" (59).
Seine letzten filmischen Auftritte entstanden in den 60er Jahren mit
"Days of Wine and Roses" (62) und "Apache Rifles" (64).
Pat O'Malley war mit der Schauspielerin Lillian Wilkes verheiratet.
