1885 - 1953

He began his artistic life with a job at a circus. Finally followed first smaller parts on stages of the same size before first leading roles followed.

When he came with a theater tour to the USA he got in contact with the still young film business and he took part in first movies like "The Cowboy and the Shrew" (11), "The Novice" (11), "Their Only Son" (11), "The Artist's Sons" (11), "Old Billy" (11), "The Liar" (12), "The Peacemaker" (12) and "The Bandit's Mask" (12).

Later he switched to Universal Film Company where he was able to cement his status as a star. It followed engagement for other film companies.

To his numerous movies of the 10's belong "The Child of the Sea" (13), "The Sea Wolf" (13), "The Woman in Black" (14), "The Spy" (14), "The Flash" (15), "In Search of a Wife" (15), "The Dupe" (16), "The Mark of a Gentleman" (16), "Little Eve Edgarton" (16), "The Sorceress" (17), "Come Through" (17), "The Man Trap" (17), "Smashing Trough" (18), "Kiss or Kill" (18), "The Carter Case" (19) and "A Dangerous Affair" (19).

His often physical accentuated roles also continued in the 20's undiminished and Herbert Rawlinson took part in many well-known pictures, among them "Man and His Woman" (20), "The Wakefield Case" (21), "The Conflict" (21), "The Black Bag" (22), "Confidence" (22), "Fools and Riches" (23), "Stolen Secrets" (24), "The Prairie Wife" (25), "The Man in Blue" (25), "The Great Jewel Robbery" (25), "Phantom Police" (26), "Her Sacrifice" (26) and "Slipping Wives" (27).

The rise of the sound film did not harm his career and he continued his film career in the next decades successfully.
To his talkies of the 30's belong "The Working Man" (33), "Tuned Out" (35), "Ticket to Paradise" (36), "Robinson Crusoe of Clipper Island" (36), "Midnight Court" (37), "Over the Wall" (38), "Marie Antoinette" (38), "Secrets of an Actress" (38), "Blackwell's Island" (39) and "Days of Jesse James" (39).

The 40's marked the last decaded of a busy film career and Herbert Rawlinson appeared in movies like "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" (40), "Swiss Family Robinson" (40), "The Flame of New Orleans" (41), "It Started with Eve" (41), "Lady Gangster" (42), "War Dogs" (42), "The Masked Marvel" (43), "Forty Thieves" (44), "San Quentin" (46), "Superman" (48), "The Counterfeiters" (48) and "Brimstone" (49).

Herbert Rawlinson only took part in few more movies in his last years, e.g. "The Flaming Urge" (53) and "Jail Bait" (53).
