1905 - 1994

His father was a bullfighter and called on his son to follow his footsteps. But when the family moved to the USA, Gilbert Roland decided for the acting.

He began as an extra at the age of 13 and adapted the stage name Gilbert Roland (traced from the actor John Gilbert and actress Ruth Roland).

His first movies came into being in the 20s - "The Lady Who Lied" (25), "The Campus Flirt" (26), "Camille" (27), "The Dove" (27) and "The Woman Disputed" (28).

With the transition to the talkies he continued his career successfully and was active as an actor till the 80s. 

In the 30s he took part in the movies "Mephisto" (30), "No Living Witness" (32), "A Parisian Romance" (32), "She Done Him Wrong" (33), "Mystery Woman" (35), "Thunder Trail" (37), "Gateway" (38) and "Juarez" (39).

In the 40s he continued his career with the movies "The Sea Hawk" (40), "Angels with Broken Wings" (41), "Captain Kidd" (45), "Beauty and the Bandit" (46), "High Conquest" (47) and "We Were Strangers" (49) - if often were western movies.

In the following decades he was still a popular actor who appeared in movies like "Mark of the Renegade" (51), "The Bad and the Beautiful" (52), "Thunder Bay" (53), "That Lady" (55), "Around the World in Eighty Days" (56), "The Wild and the Innocent" (59), "Cheyenne Autumn" (64), "Sonora" (69), "The Mark of Zorro" (74), "The Sacketts" (79) and "Barbarosa" (82).

Beside it he also worked for the television and had several guest appearances in well-known serials like "Zorro", "Gunsmoke", "The Fugitive", "Bonanza", "The High Chaparral" and "Kung Fu".
