1907 - 1988

Sein Vater Robert N. Bradbury war Regisseur und stellte mit Bob Steele und seinem Zwillingsbruder Bill 16 Kurzfilme her wie "The Adventures of Bob and Bill" (20), "The American Badger" (21), "Daniel Boone Through the Wilderness" (25), "Davy Crockett at the Fall of the Alamo" (26) und "The Mojave Kid" (27), damals spielte Bob Steele noch unter seinem bürgerlichen Namen Bob Bradbury jr.

1926 spielte Bob Steele erstmals in einem Film, der nicht von seinem Vater inszeniert wurde - "The College Boob" (26). Seine Karriere nahm schnell Formen an. Er legte sich den Künstlernamen Steele zu und etablierte sich als Darsteller in unzähligen Western-Filmen. Seine Stummfilme umfassen u.a. "The Bandit's Son" (27), "Driftin' Sands" (28), "Breed of the Sunsets" (28), "Trail of Courage" (28), "Captain Careless" (28) und "The Amazing Vagabond" (29).

In den 30er Jahren avancierte er zu einem Star in B-Western, daneben spielte er auch in anderen Genres wie "Of Mice and Men" (39).
Zu seinen bekanntesten Filmen in den 30er Jahren gehören "The Man from Nowhere" (30), "Hunted Men" (30), "Law of the West" (32), "Young Blood" (32), "The Gallant Fool" (33), "Smokey Smith" (35), "Trail of Terror" (35), "Border Phantom" (37), "Colorado Kid" (37), "Thunder in the Desert" (38) und "The Pal from Texas" (39).

Er konnte seine Westernkarriere bis Mitte der 40er Jahre fortsetzen mit "Billy the Kid in Texas" (40), "Lone Star Raiders" (40), "The Great Train Robbery" (41), "West of Cimarron" (41), "The Blocked Trail" (43) und "Wildfire" (45).

Als sein Starruhm als Westerndarsteller zu verblassen begann, agierte Bob Steele nebst Western auch in anderen Filmen als Charakterdarsteller, allen voran "The Big Sleep" (46). Die Filme der 40er und 50er Jahre umfassen desweiteren "Thunder Town" (46), "Killer McCoy" (47), "Exposed" (47), "Forth Worth" (51), "The Lion and the Horse" (52), "Island in the Sky" (53), "The Spoilers" (55), "The Steel Jungle" (56) und "The Atomic Submarine" (59).

Letztmals einem breiten Publikum bekannt wurde er als Trooper Duffy in der Serie "F Troop" (65), sein letzter Film war "Nightmare Honeymoon" (73).
