The actress Nora Swinburne was born as Elinore Johnson. She began her
career at the theater when she was ten years old, both as an actress and
dancer.
Later she joined the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and became established
at the theater with plays like "The Wild Flowers" (16), "This and That"
(16), "Suzette" (17), "Scandal" (19) and "Tilly of Bloomsbury" (21).
At the same time she also gained a foothold in the film business and
she made her film debut with "Saved from the Sea" (20). In the next years
she took part in the silent movies "The Autumn of Pride" (21), "Branded"
(21), "The Unwanted" (24) and "One Colombo Night" (26).
She continued her career successfully in the 30's at the theater as
well as in movies and became a demanded actress in both fields.
To her movies of the 30's belong "A Man of Mayfair" (31), "White Face"
(32), "Perfect Understanding" (33), "The Lonely Road" (36) and "The Citadel"
(38).
Nors Swinburne kept busy as an actress till to the 70's, to her numerous
movie roles belong "The Farmer's Wife" (41), "The Man in Grey" (43), "Fanny
by Gaslight" (44), "The Blind Goddess" (48), "Christopher Columbus" (49),
"Quo Vadis" (51), "Helen of Troy" (56), "The Winslow Boy" (58), "A Man

Nora Swinburne was married with the actors Francis Lister, Edward Ashley
and Esmond Knight.
