The actress Alma Taylor belonged to the first British silent movie
stars and was one of the most active actresses at the same time.
After her first movies "The Story of a Picture" (09) and "The Little
Milliner and the Thief" (09) followed the breakthrough with a whole string
of movies with the figure Tilly which she impersonated together with the
actress Chrissie White as her sister.
To these movies belong "Tilly the Tomboy Visits the Poor" (10), "Tilly
at the Election" (10), "Tilly Works for a Living" (11), "Tilly's Party"
(11), "Tilly and the Dogs" (11) and "Tilly's Breaking-Up Party" (13).
In the next years followed countless other movies with Alma Taylor which
increased her popularity.
To these movies belong "The Tailor's Revenge" (13), "Partners in Crime"
(13), "The Mill Girl" (13), "David Copperfield" (13), "The Price of Fame"
(14), "His Great Opportunity" (14), "The Basilisk" (14), "The Traitor"
(15), "Spies" (15), "The Man at the Wheel" (16), "Molly Bawn" (16), "Annie
Laurie" (16), "The Cobweb" (17), "Boundary House" (18), "Sheba" (19) and
"Broken in the Wars" (19).
She was able to continue her career in the 20's also she could not quite
go on from her earlier successes.
She acted among others in the productions "Anna the Adventuress" (20),
"The Tinted Venus" (21), "The Pipes of Pan" (23), "Comin' Thro the Rye"
(24), "Shadow of Egypt" (24), "The House of Marney" (26) and "Two Little
Drummer Boys" (28).
In 1929 she also took part in two German productions, "Der Hund von
Baskerville" directed by Richard Oswald and "Die Nacht des Schreckens"
(29).
The sound film era rang in the end of her career at the same time. She
only took part in few more movies and played smaller roles, among them
"Deadlock" (31), "House of Dreams" (33), "Everybody Dance" (36), "Lilacs
in the Spring" (54), "Lost" (56), Alfred Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew
Too Much" (56) and "A Night to Remember" (58) - her last movie.
Alma Taylor was married with the producer and director Walter
West.
