The actress Norma Whalley joined the theater at the end of the 19th
century and first worked in Australia for some years. She soon became established
as a stage actress and she got international engagements.
Among others she toured through South Africa in the 1890s, afterwards
she worked in the USA, e.g. on Broadway.
Norma Whalley remained a busy stage actress at the beginning of the
20th century and she took part in numerous plays, sometimes also as a singer.
She entered the film business in 1920 with the silent movie "Colonel
Newcombe, the Perfect Gentleman" (20), it followed other silent movies
like "The Mystery of Mr. Bernard Brown" (21), "The Pauper Millionaire"
(22), "The Experiment" (22), "Half a Truth" (22), "The Virgin Queen" (23)
and "The Luck of the Navy" (27).
In the sound film era of the 30s she only appeared sporadically in front
of the camera, among them are the productions "This Is the Life" (33),
"The Camels Are Coming" (34) and "The Dictator" (35).
Norma Whalley was married with the vaudeville actor J. Sherrie Matthews
and with Sir Percival Clarke.
