The actor Jean Richard became very popular in the 70's with his role
as comissioner Maigret in the serial "Les enquêtes du commissaire
Maigret" (67-90). He impersonated this character in 92 episodes.
But the film career of Jean Richard began much earlier, namely at the
end of the 40's.
He made his film debut with "Six heures à perdre" (47), it followed
the movies "Mission à Tanger" (49) and "Le roi Pandore" (49).
He became established as an actor in the 50's and he appeared in many
productions in the next two decades. To these movies belong "Innocents
in Paris" (52), "Si Versailles m'était conté" (54), "Les
truands" (56), "La vie à deux" (58), "Le gendarme de Champignol"
(59), "La famille Fenouillard" (60), "La guerre des boutons - Der Krieg
der Knöpfe" (62), "Clémentine chérie" (63), "Les bons
vivants" (65) and "Bang Bang" (67).
He also appeared in German productions too in the 60's, the most popular
ones are "Es muss nicht immer Kaviar sein" (61) and "Diesmal muss es Kaviar
sein" (61).
From the 70's he only appeared sporadically in movies, he now directed
his attention to the TV serial around commissioner Maigret.
To the few movies beside this serial belong "Le viager" (72) and "Signé
Furax" (81).
Jean Richard was not only active as an actor. Before he became an actor
he worked among others as a comic artis, as singer in operettas and as
an author of books.
He founded the circus "Jean Richard" in 1957 and was its director till
1978, in 1963 followed the first experience zoo in France.
