Alexandra Carlisle

1886 - 1936

.
.
The actress Alexandra Carlisle began her theatrical career in 1903 when she played the role of Audrey in the Shakespeare play "As You Like It".

She soon became established as a stage actress in the next years and among others she also worked for Herbert Beerbohm Tree.

Her first appearance in a movie was for "The Tides of Fate" (17) where she played the role of Fanny Lawson at Frank Holland's and William Sheer's side.

But the film business remained a minor part in her life and it lasted till 1934 till she acted again in front of the camera, this time for the production "Half a Sinner" (34) with Joel McCrae, Sally Blane, Walter Brennan and Mickey Rooney.

Alexandra Carlisle changed from comedic roles to tragic ones in 1935 but she was only able to show her talent in this field for one year before she died in 1936 at the age of only 50.
