. The actress Catherine Deneuve was born as Catherine Dorléac in Paris. She went down in film history as a chilly blonde. Her unapproachableness produced a kind of respect which is characteristic for many of her roles. She already made her film debut at the age of 14 with „Les collégiennes“ (57) and she laid the foundations of her unique film career in the 60's. She had her breakthrough with „Les parapluies de Cherbourg - Die Regenschirme von Cherbourg“ (63), it followed „Repulsion - Ekel“ (65) directed by a young Roman Polanski and „Belle de jour - Schöne des Tages“ (66). In the following two decades she took part in well-known movies like „Das Liebeskarussell“ (65), „Benjamin“ (68), „Mayerling“ (68), „Tristana“ (70), „Touche pas à la femme blanche“ (74), „Zig zig“ (74), „L‘agression“ (75), „Le sauvage“ (75), „March or Die - Marschier oder stirb“ (77) and „L‘argent des autres“ (78). In the 80's she acted in highlights like „Le dernier métro - Die letzte Metro“ (80) at Gérard Depardieu's side, „L'Africain - Der Buschpilot“ (1983) with Philippe Noiret, „Le lieu du crime - Schauplatz des Verbrechens“ (86) and „Agent Trouble - Mord aus Versehen“ (87). She was also often engaged in the 90's by well-known directors and she appeared in „Indochine“ (91) - for which she was nominated for an Oscar, „La reine blanche - Die schöne Lili“ (91), „Pola X“ (99), „Place Vendôme“ (99), „Dancer in the Dark“ (00) and "8 femmes" (02). Catherine Deneuve's sister Françoise Dorléac
became also a very popular actress.
