. The actor Maurice Escande began his film career in 1918 with "Simone" (18). In the 20's followed few more silent movies like "Le femme du choquart" (21) and "La damnation de Faust" (25). His cinematical engagements increased in the sound film era of the 30's and he took part in "La chance" (31), "Les trois mousquetaires" (33), "Lucrèce Borgia" (35), "Le domino vert" (35), "La garçonne" (36), "Cinderella" (37), "La marseillaise" (38) and "Café de Paris" (38). In the next two decades came his last regular appearances in front of the camera into being and he played numerous support roles in movies like "Moulin Rouge" (40), "Madame Sans-Gêne" (41), "Le capitaine Fracasse" (43), "La renegate" (48), "Le diable boiteux" (48), "L'étrange Mme X" (51), "La dame aux camélias" (53), "Napoléon" (55) and "Si Paris nous était conté" (56). Afterwards he retired from the film business with few exceptions and
dedicated to the theater again.
Maurice Escande presided the Comédie Française from 1960 to 1970 and formed a new generation of French comedians like Michel Bouquet and Claude Piéplu. Maurcie Escande was married with the actress Mary
Marquet.
