The actor François Périer was born as François
Pillu in Paris. He studied dramatic arts and went to the conservatory to
André Brunot in 1938. For his performance in the play "Jours heureux"
he got his first award.
He began his film career at the same time, first he impersonated small
roles. To these movies belong "Hôtel du Nord" (38), "La chaleur du
sein" (38), "La fin du jour" (39) and "Le duel" (39). It followed "Les
jours heureux" (41), "Lettres d'amour" (42), "L'enfant de l'amour" (44)
and "Sylvie et le fantôme" (45).
François Périer became one of the most distinguished French
actors in numerous movies after the war.
To his well-known post-war movies belong "Un revenant" (46), "La vie
en rose" (47), "Jean de la Lune" (49), "La souricière" (50), "Jeunes
mariés" (53), "Villa Borghese" (53), "Escale à Orly - Zwischenlandung
in Paris" (55), "Gervaise" (56), "Charmants garçons" (57) and "Bobosse"
(59).
The theater became more important again from the 60's but he still appeared
regular in front of the camera. To these movies belong "L'amant de cinq
jours" (61), "La visita" (63), "Week-end à Zuydcoote" (64), "Le
samouraï" (67) and "Z" (69).
He remained busy in the film business and impersonated impressive roles
in productions like "Max et les ferrailleurs" (71), "L'attentat - Die tödliche
Falle/Die Affäre Sadiel" (73), "Stavisky..." (74), "Police Python
357" (76), "Thérèse Humbert" (83), "Le Tartuffe" (84), the
serial "Le gorille" (90) and "Mémoires d'un jeune con" (96).
François Périer suffered from Alzheimer's disease from
the beginning of the 90's but he was able to work for the radio till to
the middle of the 90's.
Besides his activity as an actor he also led the theater de la Michodière
for some years.
He was among others married with the actresses Jacqueline
Porel and Marie Daëms. His son Jean-Pierre Périer committed
suicide in 1966 at the age of 23. His son Jean-Marie Périer became
a director.
