. The director and writer Bertrand Tavernier was born as the son of the writer René Tavernier. After he studied law he began to wrote film reviews before he became a director assistant of Jean-Pierre Melville and Claude Chabrol in order to gain experiences in the film business. Already in the 60s he realised first projects as a director and writer, among them "Les baisers. Baiser de Judas" (64) and "La chance et l'amour: Une chance explosive" (64). He managed his breakthrough with "L'horloger de Saint-Paul" (74), in the next years followed successful movies like "Le juge et l'assassin" (76), "La mort en direct" (80), "Coup do torchon" (81), "Mississippi Blues" (83), "'Round Midnight" (86), "La passion Béatrice" (87) and "La vie et rien d'autre" (89). He was able to set a benchmark for the French film again in the 90s and he shot "Daddy Nostalgie" (90), "La guerre sans nom" (92), "La fille de d'Artagnan" (94), "Capitaine Conan" (96) and "Ca commence aujourd'hui" (99). To his latest works belong "Laissez-passer" (02), "Holy Lola" (04), "Lucifer et moi" (08) and "La princesse de Montpensier" (10). His son Nils Tavernier is also active in the film business as a director
and actor.
