. The production designer first studied architecture and he made first practical experiences on a construction side. As an architect he realised numerous buildings like hotels, factories, villas and apartment buildings. He joined the film business in 1919 and in his first year he created the set for "Die Sumpfhanne" (19) and "Der Tintenfischclub" (19). His last cinematical works came in the silent film era of the 20s into being and Julian Ballenstedt took part in numerous productions. To his well-known movies of those years belong "Fata Morgana" (20), "Johann Baptiste Lingg" (20), "Ferréol" (20), "Der Dämon von Kolno" (21), "Der Silberkönig" (21), "Der Gang durch die Hölle" (21), "Der rätselhafte Tod" (21), "Wege des Lasters" (22), "Friedrich Schiller" (23) and "Aufstieg der kleinen Lilian" (25). Afterwards he retired from the film business and concentrated again to his profession as an architect.
