. The actor Arthur Bergen began his artistic career as an actor at the Hoftheater in Meiningen in 1894. It followed engagements which also led him to Berlin. There he entered the film business in 1913 and he acted in his first movies called "Auf dem Felde der Ehre" (13) und "Falsche Perlen" (13). The next years offered him numerous support roles, among them "Der höchste Wurf" (16), "Der Trödler von Prag" (16), "Renates Liebesgeschichte" (16), "Der Schatz im Berge" (17), "Die Heimkehr des Odysseus" (18), "Menschen, die durchs Leben irren" (18), "Ich klage an" (19) and "Die Heimat" (19). At the beginning of the 20s he took part again in a number of productions before his engagements in front of the camera diminished. To his well-known movies of those years belong "Moral" (20), "Die entfesselte Menschheit" (20), "Der Eid des Stephan Huller" (21), "Sie und die Drei" (22), "Der falsche Dimitri" (22), "Lola Montez, die Tänzerin des Königs" (22), "Die grüne Manuela" (23) and "Die Verrufenen" (25). Afterwards he concentrated to his activity as a movie director. to Arthur Bergen's directed movies belong "Yoshiwara, die Liebesstadt der Japaner" (20), "Die vom anderen Ufer" (26), "Die Wiskottens" (26), "Frühere Verhältnisse" (27) and "Anastasia, die falsche Zarentochter" (28). After a perennial interruption he returned to the big screen. In the meanwhile the silent movie was replaced by the sound film. But Arthur Bergen was only able to appear in few more productions, among them "Zweierlei Moral" (31), "Panik in Chicago" (31), " Unter falscher Flagge" (32), "Der tolle Bomberg" (32) and "Gruss und Kuss - Veronika" (33). With the rise of the National Socialism the career of the Non Aryan Arthur Bergen ended and he was no longer allowed to work. Mit dem Aufkommen des Nationalsozialismus wurde Arthur Bergen als Nicht-Arier mit einem Arbeitsverbot belegt. Arthur Bergen and his wife were deported to the concentration in camp in 1943 where both were murdered. Other
