. The actor Werner Bernhardy was born as Werner Tummeley in Magdeburg. He began his career at smaller theaters before he also got engagements in the big cities of Germany. He joined the film business in the 10s and he impersonated first movie roles in "Die blaue Mauritius" (18), "Der gelbe Schein" (18), "Das Glücksmädel" (18) and "Der verheiratete Junggeselle" (18). His last cinematical work for a silent movie was "Filmbanditen" (21). Although in the 10s Werner Bernhardy was also active as an author and screenwriter. He wrote the screenplays for the movies "Elly und Nelly" (18), "Das Glücksmädel" (18), "Das Schicksal der Renate Jongk" (18), "Der graue Herr" (19) and "Der Leidensweg des Hainar Rönelund" (20). In the sound film era of the 30s he continued his career as a movie actor and he took part in the productions "Das Mädchen Johanna" (35), "Ein seltsamer Gast" (36), "Allotria" (36), "Moral" (36), "Schlussakkord" (36), "Ritt in die Freiheit" (37), "Truxa" (37), "Firdericus" (37), "Die göttliche Jette" (37) and "Das grosse Abenteuer" (38). During World War II he only appeared in one more movie called "Rembrandt" (42). After the war he continued he activity at the theater in Schwerin, moreover he was nominated by the Americans as the Generalintendant at the Mecklenburgischen Staatstheater. His son Werner Bernhardy jun. became an author too.
