Gustav Botz

. The actor Gustav Botz began his career at the theater in Kaiserslautern where he got his first engagement in 1884. It soon followed engagements in other cities like Dresden, Koblenz, Basel and from 1909 Berlin. In Berlin he entered the film business in 1914 and his first movie was "Das Kriegslied der Rheinarmee" (14). It followed numerous other engagements for the film, among them "Carl und Carla" (15), "Friedrich Werders Sendung" (16), "Gänseliesel" (18), "Der fremde Fürst" (18), "Ikarus, der fliegende Mensch" (18), "Der Gezeichnete" (18), "Die Rose von Stambul" (19), "Morphium" (19) and "Störtebeker" (19). His last cinematical works came at the beginning of the 20s into being. To these productions belong "Monika Vogelsang" (20), "Der Januskopf" (20), "Katharina die Grosse" (20), "Der Mann ohne Namen" (21), "Nosferatu" (22) von Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau", "Der brennende Acker" (22), "Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler" (22), "Lola Montez, die Tänzerin des Königs" (22) and "Mein Leopold" (24). Finally he was forced to retire from the acting because of a disease of his eyes. He got nearly blind when he died several years later. Gustav Botz was married with the actress Elisabeth Botz.
