. The African actor Louis Brody was born as Ludwig M'bebe Mpessa in Douala, Cameroon. He went to Germany in 1907 and in 1915 he got his first engagement in a movie. He acted in the production "Das Gesetz der Mine" (15) directed by Joe May. It was again Joe May who engaged him for the big production "Die Herrin der Welt" (19). Louis Brody became a busy actor in the 20s and he impersonated numerous support roles in some well-known productions, often as a servant or as a threatening character. To his well-known works of those years belong "Genuine" (20), "Der kleine Muck" (21), "Der Mann ohne Namen" (21), "Der müde Tod" (21), "Das indische Grabmal - Die Sendung des Yoghi" (21), "Das indische Grabmal - Der Tiger von Eschnapur" (21), "Knock-out" (23), "Das Panzergewölbe" (26), "Mata Hari, die rote Tänzerin" (27) and "Das verschwundene Testament" (29). The transition to the sound film was no problem for him and even the rise of the National Socialists did not have a negative impact - for his work at least. Private he and his family had to put up with prejudice against Blacks. There were still dark-skinned actors for numerous movies necessary and Louis Brody was able to continue his film career during this difficult years. To his movies of the 30s and 40s belong "Peter Voss, der Millionendieb" (32), "Der weisse Dämon" (32), "Pechmarie" (34), "Die Reiter von Deutsch-Ostafrika" (34), "La Habanera" (37), "Der unmögliche Herr Pitt" (38), "Sergeant Berry" (38), "Wasser für Canitoga" (39), "Jud Süss" (40), "Carl Peters" (41), "Ohm Krüger" (41), "Vom Schicksal verweht" (42), "Dr. Crippen an Bord" (42) and the opulent production "Münchhausen" (43). Louis Brody continued his film career in Germany after World War II till to his death. To his last cinematical works belong "Peter Voss, der Millionendieb" (46), "Quax in Afrika" (47), "Schwarzwaldmädel" (50) and "Die letzte Heuer" (51). Besides his activity as an actor Louis Brody was also busy as a drummer and singer for the Mc Allen Band. Moreover he was also politically interested and he founded the "Afrikanischen Hilfsverein".
