Friedrich Feher

. The actor and director Friedrich Feher was born as Friedrich Weiss in Vienna. He already made his stage debut at the age of 18 and in the following years he got engagements in important cities like Vienna, Prague, Hamburg and Berlin. He already joined the still young film business in 1911 and he impersonated numerous roles in movies of the 10s like "Opfer der Schande" (11), "Theodor Körner" (12), "Emilia Galotti" (13), "Die Räuber" (13), "Alexandra" (15), "Lebenswogen" (17) and "Der unsichtbare Gast" (19). Only a few year after his film debut he also began to realise movies as a director. To these works belong "Das Blutgeld" (13), "Kabale und Liebe" (13), "Emilia Galotti" (13) and "Der unsichtbare Gast" (19). The height of his film career followed in the 20s and he even founded his own film production company. As an actor he took part in the legendary production "Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari" (20), afterwards followed "Tyrannei des Todes" (20), "Die rote Hexe" (21), "Die Geburt des Antichrist" (22), "Hoffmanns Erzählungen" (23) and "Der Rosenkavalier" (25). And as a director he created some importants productions too during the 20s. To his most popular works as a director belong "Marionetten des Teufels" (20), "Das Haus des Dr. Gaudeamus" (21), "Die Kurtisane von Venedig" (24), "Ssanin" (24), "Mata Hari, die rote Tänzerin" (27), "Maria Stuart" (27) and "Sensationsprozess" (29). With the rise of the sound film his film career came to an end more or less. As a director he shot "Kdyz struny ikaji" (30), "Ihr Junge" (31) and "Gehetzte Menschen" (32) and as an actor he appeared in "Ihr Junge (31). Moreover after 1933 he was longer able to work in Germany because he was a Jew. Therefore he went via Czechoslovakia to England. There he founded again a film company and he realised his last movie as a director with "The Robber Symphony" (37). He went to the USA at the end of 1936 where he was able to continue his film career briefly. He was responsible for the serial "Paramount Symphonics" and he appeared a last time in front of the camera for "Jive Junction" (43). Friedrich Feher was married with the actress Magda Sonja.
