. The actor Erwin Fichtner was born as Paul Reinhold Fichtner in Beuthen. He joined the film business in 1912 where he soon impersonated numerous roles in early silent movies. To his first movies belong "Die Launen des Schicksals" (12), "Das Ehrenwort" (13), "Die Welt ohne Männer" (14), "Das eiserne Kreuz" (14) and the film serial "Der Hund von Baskerville" (14-15). In these productions he impersonated the role of Lord Henry Baskerville at the side of Alwin Neuss as Sherlock Holmes. His engagements in front of the camera increased in the second half of the 10 and he acted in "Kismet" (16), "Der Verräter" (17), "Farmer Borchardt" (17), "Die Nacht der Entscheidung" (17), "Schatten der Nacht" (18), "Der Dornenweg" (18), "Der Klabautermann" (19), "Seelenverkäufer" (19) and "Nocturno der Liebe" (19). His last regular appearances on the big screen came in the 20s into being. To his works of those years belong "Der Vampyr von St. Louis" (20), "Fata Morgana" (20), the late sequal to the earlier Holmes serial "Der Hund von Baskerville" (20), "Die Apotheke des Teufels" (21), "Das Mädchen aus dem Sumpf" (21), "Das Spiel mit dem Weibe" (22), "Die Frau im Feuer" (24) and "Ich hatt' einen Kameraden" (26). It followed an interruption of several years before Erwin Fichtner continued his film career in the sound film era of the 30s. He normally played small roles in productions like "Ein Unsichtbarer geht durch die Stadt" (33), "Zu Strassburg auf der Schanz" (34), "Nacht ohne Abschied" (41) and "Die Frau meiner Träume" (44). Shortly afterwards he committed suicide in Berlin.
