Harry Gillmann

The actor Harry Gillmann began his artistic career at the theater in 1916 where he made his stage debut in 1916. In the next years followed numerous engagements at different theaters in Germany.

He joined the film business in 1936 and he first impersonated roles in short movies like "Die fremde Hand" (36) and "Klein, aber mein" (36) before he played a small role in the feature movie "Die göttliche Jette" (37).

But the film remained an exception so far, the world of the theater was the centre of his activity.

He successfully continued his stage career after World War II, moreover he also appeared more often in front of the camera.

To his movies of the 40s and 50s belong "Die blauen Schwerter" (49), "Familie Benthin" (50), "Die Gewehre der Frau Carrar" (53), "Der Hauptmann von Köln" (56), "Polonia-Express" (57) and "Der Held der westlichen Welt" (59).

His last cinematical works came in the 60s into being with "Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder" (61), "Zwei unter Millionen" (61), "Mord ohne Sühne" (62), die Serie "Die Laubenpieper" (63), "Kubinke" (66), "Irrungen - Wirrungen" (66) and "Es" (66).
