The actress Maria "Mizzi" Griebl got singing lessons and at the age
of 18 she started together with her sister Lina Griebl her professional
acting career at the Theater in der Josefstadt.
She became a demanded actress and singer on German-speaking stages,
later she also toured through Europe and even Asia.
She made her film debut in 1915 and soon became a regular actress in
the film business.
To her first movies belong "Charley, der Wunderaffe" (15), "Der Glücksschneider"
(16) and "Seine Schwiegermutter" (19).
The 20s marked the height of her career where she could demonstrate
her comedic side in numerous movies.
To these productions belong "Verklungene Zeiten" (22), "Der Eisenkönig"
(23), "Die Stadt ohne Juden" (24), "Die Familie ohne Moral" (27), "Das
Mädel aus der Wachau" (28), "Andere Frauen" (28) and "Die Beute des
Scheiks" (29).
In the sound film era of the 30s followed support roles for "Der Onkel
aus Sumatra" (30), "Die Fahrt in die Jugend" (35), "Eva" (35), "Unsterbliche
Melodien" (36), "Prater" (36) and "Hannerl und ihre Liebhaber" (36).
It followed a longer interruption before she appeared again in movies
at the end of World War II with "Melusine" (44) and "Am Abend nach der
Oper" (45).
After "Der weite Weg" (46) - one of the first German-speaking postwar
movies - she retired from the film business.
