Eugen Hamm

. The cinematographer Eugen Hamm first studied at the school of art in Karlsruhe, later he studied in other cities, among them Munich. He made first experiences as a photographer by Emil Bieber. He took over an employment as director of artistic photography before he was engaged as a cinematographer for two movies from 1911. For Pathé he realised the early silent movies "Notre Dame de Paris" (11) and "Les misérables" (12) as a cinematographer. His real career as a cinematographer began in 1917 and he worked for many movies in the next years. Before that he was a war correspondent from 1914 to 1917. To his works for the film business of those years belong "Totenkopfreiter" (17), "Papa Krause" (18), "Suchomlinow" (18), "Blondes Gift" (19) and "Sklaven des Kapitals" (19). His last cinematical works as a cinematographer came in the 20s into being. To his well-known works belong the productions "Die Faust im Dunkeln" (20), "Der Menschheit Anwalt" (20), "Der Schädel der Pharaonentochter" (20), "Das Rätsel der Sphinx" (21), "Der rätselhafte Tod" (21), "Christoph Columbus" (23), "Esterella" (23), "Der Berg des Schicksals" (24), "Ssanin" (24) and "Eine Nacht in Yoshiware" (28). Afterwards he retired from the film business. He took over the management of the union of photographers for the "Reichsfachsschaft film".
