Emil Hess

. The actor Emil Hess worked successfully at the theater for many years where he started his career in 1911. Many years later he was able to gain a foothold in the film business during wartime. Although he already appeared in the movies "Herbstzauber" (18) and "Seltsame Seelen" (18) his real film career started at the end of the 30s. To his first movies belong "Das Herz der Königin" (40), "Jud Süss" (40) directed by Veit Harlan, "Der Weg ins Freie" (41), "Andreas Schlüter" (42) and "Die Entlassung" (42). His film career which was more or less limited to the years of war comprised popular productions like "Damals" (43), "Herr Sanders lebt gefährlich" (44), "Der Engel mit dem Saitenspiel" (44), "Der Kreuzlschreiber" (44) - in which he impersonated one of few leading roles - and "Erzieherin gesucht" (45). When he left Berlin when the city was briefly in the offing and struggled
back to his homecountry Switzerland where he arrived after great efforts.
Shortly afterwards he died, probably because of the suffered exertion afore.
