. The actress Lucie Höflich was born as Helene Lucie von Holwede in Hanover. When she became well-known as an actress at theaters - she worked from 1903 to 1932 at the "Deutsches Nationaltheater" in Berlin - and made her film debut in 1913 with "Gensdarm Möbius" (13). Her real film career began in 1919 with "Freie Liebe" (19) and "Maria Magdalena" (19). In the 20's followed productions like "Katharina die Grosse" (20), "Die Ratten" (21) and "Ein Glas Wasser" (23). Afterwards it followed the great success "Ein Walzertraum" (25) and "Tartüff" (26) where she played at her husband Emil Jannings' side. The a little stocky actress was engaged as a resolute character in the sound films. In movies like "Der weisse Dämon/Rauschgift" (32), "Peer Gynt" (34), "Der Kurier des Zaren" (36) and "Der Berg ruft" (37) she demonstrated her acting qualities. In 1937 she was appointed national actress, but Lucie Höflich refused to appear on German stages during the Nazi regime. She only appeared in some few film productions like "Ohm Krüger" (41) and "Altes Herz wird wieder jung" (43). In the 50's you could admire Lucie Höflich among others in the pictures "Himmel ohne Sterne" (55) and "Anastasia, die letzte Zarentochter" (56). In 1953 she was achieved with the "Bundesverdienstkreuz" for her lifework.
