. The screenwriter, director and actor Philipp Lothar Mayring began his career as a stage actor. His engagements led him from Görlitz and Augsburg to Munich where he became established at the theater. At the theater he also directed first plays as well. He joined the film business in 1920, first as an actor and director. As an actor he impersonated roles in the productions "Der Kampf um den Goldfund" (20), "Sklaven der Rache" (21) and "Das Geheimnis der grünen Villa" (22). In the sound film era of the 30s he took part in the movies "Der Tanz geht weiter" (30), "Dämon des Meeres" (31) and "Die Erbschaft" (36). He also realised his first movie as a director in 1920 with "Das Geheimnis des Buddha" (20). Other movies as a director followed with "Sklaven der Rache" (21), "Das Geheimnis der grünen Villa" (22), "Das gestohlene Gesicht" (30), "Alarm auf Station III" (39), "Blutsbrüderschaft" (41), "Ein schöner Tag" (44) and "Münchnerinnen" (49). But he was most successful as a screenwriter of many popular movies. To these works belong "Rosenmontag" (30), "Meine Frau, die Hochstaplerin" (31), "Es wird schon wieder besser" (32), "Strich durch die Rechnung" (32), "Der weisse Dämon" (32), "Ein gewisser Herr Gran" (33), "Unsichtbare Gegner" (33), "Ein Mann will nach Deutschland" (34), "Schloss Hubertus" (34), "Endstation" (35), "Der Mann mit der Pranke" (35), "Einer zuviel an Bord" (35), "Patrioten" (37), "Tango Notturno" (37), "Die Umwege des schönen Karl" (38) and "Die Nacht der Entscheidung" (38). During World War II came his last screenplays into being for "Aufruhr in Damaskus" (39), "Alarm auf Station III" (39), "Maria Ilona" (39), "Die drei Codonas" (40), "Der verkaufte Grossvater" (42) and "Ein schöner Tag" (44).
