.
. The actress Hella Moja was born as Helene Gertrud Mojzesczyck or Helene Schwerdtfeger in Ciemin-Zab. in Russia, there are different information about her birthyear. She belonges to the most successful actresses of the 10's. She soon had her own Moja serial and she was able to found her own film company. Before she was able to conquer the world of film she worked as a writer for the Ullstein- and Scherl company. Finally she took acting lessons, among other by the great actress Frida Richard and made first acting experiences at the Lessing theater. When she was spotted by Alwin Neuss for the film this marked a rapid
increase of her popularity.
The interest of the audience for Hella-Moja movies faded slowly in the 20's. She only appeared in few movies like "Abgrund der Seele" (20), "Gräfin Walewska" (20), "Der Mann um Mitternacht" (24) and "U 9 Weddigen" (27) before her screen career was finally finished because of the sound film era. When the National Socialist came into power there was a heavy time for Hella Moja because she wasn't able to prove her Aryan origin. She changed her name into Helka Moroff in 1934, later into Hella Sewa. Besides her activity as an actress she also wrote some scripts for movies. The year of her death is not really clear. On one hand there should
exist news of her death in a newspaper in 1937, on the other hand resources
say that she changed her name several times in the years 1934, 1937 and
1942 which makes more confusing.
