Ellen Plessow

. The actress Ellen Plessow was born as Helene Penning in Oldenburg. After an acting education she got her first engagement at the Neues Theater in Mainz where she appeared in 1910 for the first time. It followed other engagements, among others in Berlin too. She entered the film business in 1921 and she took part in the productions "Warum bin ich der Verlobte meiner Tochter" (21) and "Filmbanditen" (21). She became established as a demanded support actress in the next years and she acted in the movies "Seine Exzellenz von Madagaskar" (22), "Liebe und Trompetenblasen" (25), "Der Farmer aus Texas" (25), "Der Geiger von Florenz" (26), "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" (26), "Jagd auf Menschen" (26), "Der Himmel auf Erden" (27), "Wolga Wolga" (28) and "Fräulein Else" (29). The transition to the sound film was no problem for Ellen Plessow and she appeares in other movies like "Im Kampf mit der Unterwelt" (30), "Dolly macht Karriere" (30), "Du und ich" (38), "Nanon "(38) and "Salonwagen E 417" (39). Ellen Plessow lived in Eastern Germany after the war where she continued to act in front of the camera for the DEFA. To her last cinematical works belong "Das Mädchen Christine" (49), "Polo Poppenspäler" (54), "Das tapfere Schneiderlein" (56), "Zwei Mütter" (57) und "Emilia Galotti" (58).
