Gustave Preiss

. The cinematographer Gustave Preiss was the son of the film pioneer Louis Preiss and therefore he came in touch with the film business at a young age. He began to shot actual events with the camera for his father which were demonstrated to the audience in small cinemas. Finally Gustave Preiss left Switzerland and went to Germany where he entered the film business in 1916. To his first movies belong "Theoprhastus Paracelsus" (16), "Wie Bubi Detektiv wurde" (17), "Die siebente Grossmacht" (19), "Die Geächteten" (19) and "Samson" (19). The height of his film career followed in the 20s and Gustave Preiss was the cinematographer for many productions. To his well-known works of those years belong "Die entfesselte Menschheit" (20), "Die Amazone" (21), "Nathan der Weise" (22), "Helena" (24), "Mutter und Kind" (24), "Das goldene Kalb" (25), "Der Mann aus dem Jenseits" (26), "Das Panzergewölbe" (26), "Meine Tante - deine Tante" (27), "Da hält die Welt den Atem an" (27), "Zuflucht" (28) and "Die Frau, die jeder liebt, bist du" (29). With the rise of the sound film ended his career and he retired from the film business. To his last works as a cinematographer belong "Der Liebesmarkt" (30) and "Stürmisch die Nacht" (31).
