. The actor Heinz Salfner first studied literature and art history but finally he dedicated to the acting and made his stage debut in 1899. In the next years he played at different German theaters, in 1908 he came to the Stadttheater Leipzig where he also directed some plays. Other engagements led him among others also to Berlin. He made his film debut in 1914 with the title role in the movie "Oberst Chabert" (14), it followed other movies like "Die Vase der Semirames" (18), "Das Tor der Freiheit" (19) and "Peer Gynt" (19) - a role he often impersonated on stage before. His appearances in front of the camera remained seldom for the time
being, the theater was still his main activitiy.
Only in the 30s Heins Salfner advanced to a very busy actor in movies and he often impersonated impressive support roles. He reached the height of his popularity in the 30s and he took part in movies like "Ein toller Einfall" (32), "Schuss im Morgengrauen" (32), "Ich war Jack Mortimer" (35), "Mädchenjahre einer Königin" (36), "Allotria" (36), "Der Mann, von dem man spricht" (37), "Togger" (37), "5 Millionen suchen einen Erben" (38) and "Anton, der Letzte" (39) mit. Heinz Salfner was able to play till to his death, to his last cinematical
works belong "Aus erster Ehe" (40), "Der grosse König" (42), "Der
Fall Rainer" (42), "Der kleine Grenzverkehr" (43), "Glück bei Frauen"
(44) and "Die Fledermaus" (46).
