. The actor and director Fred Stranz began his film career in 1917. Already at the beginning he was both a movie director and actor - often in his own movies. His first directed movie was "Der Giftbecher" (17), in the next years followed the productions "Der schwarze Jack" (18) and "Der rote Reiter" (19). With several of his early movies he created the so-called "Isar-Western" with the figure Texas Fred which he impersonated himself. In the 20s he realised other silent movies as a director like "Der Vampyr" (20), "Weltstadtbanditen" (21), "Der gelbe Würger" (21), "Hyänen der Welt" (21), "Zwischen Liebe und Macht" (22), "Die graue Macht" (23) and "Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins" (29). He was also regulary active as an actor. To his appearances in front of the camera belong "Der Giftbecher" (17), "Der geprellte Don Juan" (18), "Der rote Reiter" (19), "Die Eisenbahnräuber" (20), "Hyänen der Welt" (21), "Im Schatten der Vergangenheit" (22) and "Frauen und Banknoten" (26). For some of his movies he also wrote the script and was responsible as a producer.
