. The actress Dora Thalmer, who was also credited as Doris Thalmer auftrat, was born as Theodora Thalmessinger in Frankfurt am Main. She early became fascinated by the stage because her mother was an opera singer. She made her debut at the theater in Bad Godesberg in 1924. In the next years followed engagements in Bremen, Frankfurt am Main and Berlin where she became established as a stage actress. She also impersonated first movie roles in the sound film era of the 30s like "Mädchen in Uniform" (31), "Acht Mädels im Boot" (32) and "Anna und Elisabeth" (33). But her aspiring acting career came to an abrupt end with the National Socialists. As a Jew she was no longer able to work from 1933 and she hid together with her husband in a village where she lived as a farmer thanks to the support of the local mayor. She continued her stage and film career after the war and she became a demanded support actress for film and television where she remained active to the old age. To her well-known movies of the 50s and 60s belong "Thomas Müntzer" (56), "Die Häuser des Herrn Sartorious" (60), "Kabale und Liebe" (60), "Julia lebt" (63), "Abschied" (68) and the serial "Krupp und Krause" (69). Her cinematical acitivity increased from the 70s. To her numerous movies till to her death belong "Zeit der Störche" (71), "Prof. Dr. med. Maria Fabian" (71), "Rückkehr als Toter" (74), "Looping" (75), "Der Mörder" (76), "Das Leben des Galileo Galilei" (78), "Herr Puntila und sein Knecht Matti" (79), "Hedda Gabler" (80), "Die Geschichte vom goldenen Taler" (85), "Felix und der Wolf" (88), "Kai aus der Kiste" (88), "Der Magdalenenbaum" (90) and "Wunderjahre" (92).
