. The actor Georg Thomalla first learnt the profession of a cook before he made his acting debut in Hamburg with the operetta "Land des Lächelns" in 1932. After other engagements on different stages he finally came to Berlin where he was spotted for the film in 1939. He made his film debut with "Ihr erstes Erlebnis" (39), it followed other rather small roles in the productions "Der Kleinstadtpoet" (39), "Stukas" (41), "Besatzung Dora" (43), "Nora" (44), "Herr Sanders lebt gefährlich" (44) and "Die tolle Susanne" (45). Georg Thomalla finally managed his breakthrough after the war. After movies like "Peter Voss, der Millionendieb" (46), "Herzkönig" (47), "Das Tor zum Paradies" (49) and "Maharadscha wider Willen" (50) he convinced the audience with his performance in "Fanfaren der Liebe" (51). From now on he often got roles as a sultry comedian and his popularity increased in the next years. To his well-known movies of the 50s belong "Schwarze Augen" (51), "Der Fürst von Pappenheim" (52), "Der Onkel aus Amerika" (53), "Die sieben Kleider der Katrin" (54), "Himmel ohne Sterne" (55), "Viktor und Viktoria" (57), "Scampolo" (58), "Die Sklavenkarawane" (58) and "Der Löwe von Babylon" (59). The following decade offered him again roles, normally in the category comedy and slapstick, tragic roles kept the exception. With movies like "Das Spukschloss im Spessart" (60), "Ramona" (61), "…und ewig knallen die Räuber" (62), "Schneewittchen und die sieben Gaukler" (62), "Lausbubengeschichten" (64), "Vater einer Tochter" (66), "Wenn Ludwig ins Manöver zieht" (67), "Immer Ärger mit den Paukern" (68) and "Die Lümmel von der ersten Bank" (68) he won the attention of the public.. Television took over a more important role in his career of the 70s and he led through several TV shows. Beside it he continued his film career in front of the camera. Th his movies of those years belong "Hurra, wir sind mal wieder Junggesellen" (71), "Tommi und kein Telefon" (71), "Hochwürden drückt ein Auge zu" (71), "Immer Ärger mit Hochwürden" (72), "Der Mann, der sich nicht traut" (76), "Links und rechts vom Ku'damm" (77) and "Vater einer Tochter" (79). Afterwards his appearances in movies became more seldom but his popularity remained undiminshed till to the old age. Zu seinen letzten filmischen Arbeiten gehören "Weekend im Paradies" (80), "Kolportage" (80), "Willi - Ein Aussteiger steigt ein" (90), eine Episode der Serie "Der Alte: Der amerikanische Onkel" (92), "Lilien in der Bank" (96) und eine Episode der Serie "Auf eigene Gefahr: Ladendiebe" (00). Beside his activity as an actor Georg Thomalla also dubbed well-known movie stars like Danny Kaye, Peter Sellers, Bob Hope and especially Jack Lemmen for whom he gave his voice since 1957 invariably.
