Willy Zeyn

. The director Willy Zeyn first finished an education as an actor in 1895 before he got first engagements at smaller theaters in Germany and abroad. Upon recommendaton of the movie director Paul von Woringen he was also engaged as a movie director. He already shot his first movies in 1911 with "Die falsche Banknote" (11) and "Ein guter Einfall" (11) and Willy Zeyn realised numerous other movies as a director in the next years. To his well-known works of the 10s belong "Die Jagd nach der Hundertpfundnote oder Die Reise um die Welt" (13), "Der schwarze Diamant" (13), "Drei Zeichen am Kreuzweg" (14), "Arme Maria" (15), "Die Schwestern" (15), "Die Tochter des Rajah" (18), "Die Stunde der Vergeltung" (18), "Das Tor der Sühne" (18), "Der Kampf um die Ehe" (19) and "Das Geheimnis von Schloss Holloway" (19). His film career diminished at the beginning of the 20s and Willy Zeyn only realised movies as a director till to the middle of the 20s. His last cinematical works are "Kaliber fünf Komma zwei" (20), "Der Hund von Baskerville, 5. Teil: Dr Macdonalds Sanatorium" (20), "Gräfin Vera" (20), "Die Diktatur des Lebens" (21), "Das Haus in der Weichselgasse" (21) and "Aus eigener Kraft" (24). Beside his activity as a movie director Willy Zeyn also wrote screenplays and he also appeared in front of the camera as an actor occasionally like "In den Krallen des Vampyrs" (19) and "Eine Frauenschönheit unter dem Seziermesser" (20). His son Willy Zeyn jr. became a well-known film producer and cutter. |
