The parents of the actor Sir George Alexander wanted that her son would made a career as a financier. But he entered an other way and became a professional actor in 1879.

Two years later he went to the Lyceum of Henry Irving where he worked till 1889. Soon after he made a career as a producer of important performances at the St. James theater, among them Oscar Wilde's "Lady Windemere's Fan" (1892) and "The Importance of Being Ernest" (1895). He worked as an actor too at the same time.

He also supported contemporary plays and occupied unknown but talented actors in the next years. For his merit for the British theater he was knighted in 1911 by King George V.

Sir George Alexander only appeared in two movies - these are "The Second Mrs. Tanqueray" (16) and "Masks and Faces" (18).
