Der Schauspieler Holmes Herbert wurde als Horace Edward Jenner geboren.
1912 kam er in die USA und begann drei Jahre später eine vielseitige
Filmkarriere.
Zu seinen ersten Stummfilmen gehören "His Wife" (15), "Her Life
and His" (17), "The Whirlpool" (18), "The Divorcee" (19) und "The ABC of
Love" (19).
In den 20er Jahren avancierte er zu einem populären Hauptdarsteller
und er verkörperte unzählige Rollen in Filmen wie "The Right
to Love" (20), "Her Lord and Master" (21), "The Inner Chamber" (21), "Toilers
of the Sea" (23), "Sinners in Heaven" (24), "Up the Ladder" (25), "The
Wanderer" (25), "The Nest" (27), "Mr. Wu" (27), "East Side, West Side"
(27), "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (28), "The Terror" (28), "Madame X" (29)
und "The Kiss" (29).
In den 30er Jahren folgten weiterhin eine grosse Zahl an Filmen, in
denen er nun vermehrt markante Nebenrollen spielte.
