The actress Mary Merrall was born as Elsie Lloyd.
She conquered the British stages at the beginning of the 20th century
and she not only appeared in London but also in Great Britain. Later followed
tours through the USA.
She made her film debut in the silent movie era with "Fatal Fingers"
(16), it followed "The Manxman" (17) and "Duke's Son" (20).
Only with the rise of the sound film her engagements in front of the
camera increased and she impersonateroles both in cinema and TV productions
- especially during the 50s and 60s.
To her first talkies belong "Men of Steel" (32), "Suspect" (39), "You
Will Remember" (41), "Dead of Night" (45), "This Man Is Mine" (46), "The
Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" (47) and "Badger's Green" (49).
From the 50s she got offered many mature roles which made her well-known
to a new audience.

Mary Merrall was married three times. Her first divorce from J.B. Hissey
made headlines when he stated her infidelity, among them some personalities
from the show business.
Afterwards she got married with the actor Ion Swinley and finally with
the actor Franklin Dyall with whom she also
managed the Abbey theatre and produced many plays.
