Der Regisseur und Drehbuchautor George B. Seitz kam vom Theater, als
er 1913 in Hollywood Fuss fasste und bereits ein Jahr später schrieb
er Drehbücher und führte Regie.
Zu seinen ersten Regiearbeiten gehören "The Exploits of Elaine"
(14), "The Iron Claw" (16), "The House of Hate" (18), "The Lightning Raider"
(19) und "The Black Secret" (19).
Oftmals drehte er dabei Abenteuerfilme, die sich damals grosser Beliebtheit
erfreuten, zu seinen bevorzugten Darstellerinnen gehörte Pearl White.
Als Drehbuchautor verfasste er in frühen Jahren "The Perils of
Pauline" (14), "Detective Craig's Coup" (14), "The Galloper" (15), "The
Closing Net" (15), "The Precious Parcel" (16), "Bling Man's Luck" (17)
und "The Naulahka" (18).
In den 20er Jahren konnte er seinen Ruf als solider Regisseur weiter
festigen und er realsierte Filme wie "Rogues and Romance" (20), "Speed"
(22), "Into the Net" (24), "The Vanishing American" (25), "Desert Gold"
(26), "The Last Frontier" (26), "The Blood Ship" (27), "The Isle of Forgotten
Women" (27), "The Tigress" (27), "Ransom" (28), "Blockade" (28) und "Black
Magic" (29).
Der Übergang zum Tonfilm meistere er problemlos und er drehte
in den nächsten Jahre viele weitere erfolgreiche Filme wie "The Lion
and the Lamb" (31), "Arizona" (31), "Shanghaied Love" (31), ""Docks of
San Francisco" (32), "The Thrill Hunter" (33), "Woman Wanted" (35), "The
Last of the Mohicans" (36), "Tarzan Escapes" (36) und "My Dear Miss Aldrich"
(37).
1938 drehte er seinen ersten Andy-Hardy-Film mit "Judge Hardy's Children"
(38), dem in den nächsten Jahren viele weitere Filme wie "Judge Hardy
and Son" (39), "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante" (40), "Andy Hardy's Private
Secretary" (41), "The Courtship of Andy Hardy" (42) und "Andy Hardy's Blonde
Trouble" (44) folgten.
Kurz nach Beendigung der Dreharbeiten zu "Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble"
verstarb George B. Seitz im Alter von 56 Jahren.
Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Regisseur und Drehbuchautor trat George
B. Seitz auch als Produzent und in der Anfangszeit seiner Karriere auch
als Schauspieler in Erscheinung.
George B. Seitz Bruder John F. Seitz war
ein bekannter Kameramann, sein Sohn George B. Seitz jr. schrieb in den
40er und 50er Jahren einige Drehbücher.
